I have over
10 years experience of producing photography and multimedia for the web, for editorial, commercial and public sector clients.
I am currently working for the Department for International Development.
I am interested in (amongst other things,
and in no particular order) archives, libraries, international development, humanitarian aid, the urban landscape, architecture,
typologies, digital imaging, large format photography, open-sourcing data, geo-tagging, the Flickr Commons project, Arsenal,
scuba diving and Welsh rugby.
Besides the work shown on this website, I have photographed (again amongst many
other things, and still in no particular order), women clearing landmines in Sri Lanka, amputees and recipients of UK aid in Haiti, derelict indian palaces, seascapes, school children conducting physics experiments for the Institute of Physics, no-budget room make-overs for a number of interiors magazines, a 17th-century Japanese 'Lotus' Sutra and fashion photographer Nick Knight's bedroom for Harper's Bazaar magazine.
On the web I have produced interpretative cultural-history web content for
the British Library (creating an online gallery containing over 100,000 digital images of items from their collections, and am currently creating multimedia content and
features for the Department for International Development website, where I have also helped redesign their website and implement effective use of social media channels.
I am
fascinated by the internet and the way in which it has transformed the dissemination of photography beyond the traditional
means of the printed page and the gallery wall. I'm passionate about using photography, technology and multimedia story-telling
to help empower people in developing countries.
I completed an MA in Photographic Studies at the University of Westminster in 2007, which culminated in an exhibition
called SPAM. Yes, I really did build and successfully promote a website called 'spam'. I've been a member of the association of photographers since 1998.
